some of our customs need to be maintained

some of our customs need to be maintained

Brian Mala
I do not disagree that most of our customs and beliefs are archaic, but this is simply because modernity has offered solutions to most of our problems. For example, removal of lower teeth by the luo which had its reasoning to allow very seek patients  be medicated when their jaws were intact, has been passed by time because developments have allowed other forms of medication such as injection, therapy and other means which do not involve the mouth.
Despite solutions provided by modernity, there are many areas which modernity cannot solve and this calls for our customs to give solutions. wife inheritance for example: it was meant to console the berieved widow, maintain family relationship because it was always done by a family member, the inheritor also provided financial support to the berieved family. all this is positive.
Many argue that this practice  is dangerous, but let us look into it in a rational approach. a depressed and angry person ca do alot of harm to the society. a depressed widow can hop from one man to another secretly in search for companion which is a natural human need. this hopping is more dangerous compared to if the society could allow her to be inherited and have one man who is always there.

Our forefathers had visions, they knew girls number would exceed boys number, knew circumcision was better for heath. the new inventions I know will never cure death and that is why I advocate for wife inheritance
